This class is suitable for parents of teens and kids with misophonia (or their teachers or clinicians if desired). Your child or teen is highly encouraged to join with you, as this class is meant for the entire family. This class is meant to be a more affordable introduction to misophonia than 1 session of coping skills coaching or therapy (Canada) which are typically $150 each.
Topics Covered:
What is misophonia (psychoeducation)
Go beyond simple definitions. Cut Through the Confusion: Learn the Clinically-Informed “Why” behind your child’s trigger response. This critical psychoeducation is essential for parents to reduce guilt, establish an empathetic foundation, and confidently explain misophonia to other family members.
Coping with misophonia at home
Tools for Home Harmony: Receive structured communication scripts and negotiation techniques designed to implement clearer, respectful boundaries during the most triggering times, such as family meals, shared spaces, and quiet study periods.
Coping with misophonia at school
Effective School Advocacy: Walk away with a template for accommodations and the precise language necessary to confidently discuss your child’s needs with teachers, school nurses, and administrators to secure appropriate support.
Family negotiations and misophonia
Reducing Conflict: Understand the “Misophonia Matters” framework for collaborative problem-solving. This approach is designed to reduce reactive outbursts and help your family establish household agreements that respect the needs of everyone involved.
Practical coping skills you can use immediately
Immediate Skillset: Discover evidence-informed sensory-based strategies and cognitive regulation techniques that can be taught and applied to your child in the moment of a trigger, offering a pathway toward better self-management.
