The following surveys will be conducted by Misophonia International, and while they are not academic papers, they will serve as a repository of information on misophonia directly from those who suffer from the disorder. Academic research and scientific papers are often biased and done by gate-keepers who have their own point-of-view. The point of these surveys will be to directly interact with the misophonia community, instead of academic institutions picking and choosing what is “worthy” of studying. This project does not have Independent Review Board (IRB) approval because it is an expensive process that effectively gate-keeps any research attempts. IRB approval is required for any studies that survey humans, even if it is voluntarily taken. All surveys are taken on a “use-at-your-own-risk” voluntary basis, and are not meant to present an authoritative or medical perspective.
It is our hope that academic researchers and institutions will use these surveys as an inspiration and starter point to direct their own research. It is very important that misophonia sufferers and advocates have a say in the research that is being conducted, yet that has not been happening.
